Available homocysteine tests
Hyperhomocysteinemia (excess) and hypohomocysteinemia (deficiency) diagnostic markers
- Homocysteine plasma levels above the normal range (hyperhomocysteinemia)
- Homocysteine plasma levels below the normal range (hypohomocysteinemia)
Please note: If you test positive for either hyperhomocysteinemia or hypohomocysteinemia then it is advised to undergo the MTHFR gene mutation (C677T and A1298C) saliva test. Although MTHFR gene mutations can cause an increase of homocysteine levels they can also sometimes cause a decrease in homocysteine levels but this is less common. If you test positive for a severe level of homocysteine then this can be an indication of homocystinuria but mindovermetal does not provide further testing in relation to a cystathionine beta-synthase (CBS) deficiency or the homocysteine urine test.
