Available copper analysis tests
Copper toxicity primary diagnostic markers/secondary diagnostic markers
Primary diagnostic markers
Secondary diagnostic markers
Please note: Copper levels can sometimes be within range (normal) in both blood and urine but then elevated on a hair mineral test result along with a deficient or excessive ceruloplasmin serum level. Copper storage in the soft tissue (hair works as a soft tissue biopsy) can show hidden excess copper storage (copper can be stored away). A hair mineral test should be the first option for analysing copper status and a ceruloplasmin serum test can also be carried out if the excess copper markers are uncertain in the hair mineral test result or it can be done alongside the hair mineral test for a more affirmative diagnosis.
Main diagnostic test
Primary diagnostic markers
- Elevated copper level in hair - hidden or direct levels
Secondary diagnostic markers
- Copper urine level above normal range
- Copper plasma level above normal range
- Ceruloplasmin (copper-binding protein) serum level below or above (less common) normal range

Treatment programme
If you test positive for copper toxicity then you will receive a treatment programme at no extra cost, you will also receive any support you need if you have any questions and queries.
Please note: A copper deficiency analysis test (copper response test) is also available. The copper blood and urine test can also analyse a deficiency.
